Choosing
Choosing the right car for Cannes
The question is not only budget: in Cannes it is the number of suitcases and the shape of the stay that decide. Here is how we steer clients.
Ferrari and Lamborghini: two seats, very little luggage
The boot of an Italian sports car takes a cabin bag, rarely more. It is the right call for a weekend when you are already staying in town, not for arriving from the airport as a couple with suitcases. In that case we deliver the sports car to the hotel and move the luggage separately.
Porsche 911: the compromise
Two real seats, two occasional ones, a usable front boot and an automatic gearbox that makes the Croisette bearable on a Saturday. It is the model we most often recommend to anyone renting a sports car for the first time.
Range Rover, Urus and SUVs: family and the full week
Four or five people, everyone’s luggage, and the ride height that clears the steep villa driveways above La Californie. On a week-long stay it is the car that actually gets used every day.
Convertible or coupé?
From May to September a convertible earns its keep. In April and October the evenings are cool and a coupé is more pleasant. We say so plainly when the week’s forecast does not match your first instinct.

Driving in and around Cannes
The Croisette and parking
The Croisette moves at walking pace in season, which is rather the point. For parking: the Palais des Festivals car park, the Gray d’Albion, or your hotel valet. We tell you which one takes your model before handover.
The Corniche d’Or
Théoule, the Estérel massif, Agay, Saint-Raphaël: forty kilometres of bends along the water on red rock. The finest road reachable from Cannes, and the one visitors know least.
Monaco, Grasse and the back country
Monaco fifty minutes by motorway, Grasse and Gourdon forty through the Gorges du Loup, Saint-Paul-de-Vence thirty. Enough to fill a day without ever taking the same road twice.
How long should you rent for?
Two days is enough for a sports car: the pleasure is intense and dilutes beyond that. A week makes sense on an SUV or a saloon, which get used daily. Many clients combine the two: the SUV for the stay, the sports car for forty-eight hours in the middle.
When to book
During the Cannes Film Festival in May, Cannes Lions in June, the Yachting Festival in September and the whole of August, the Riviera fleet is gone weeks ahead. Outside those windows a rare model stays reachable at a few days’ notice, sometimes the same morning.
Frequently asked
Renting a car in Cannes
What deposit?
Between €3,000 and €15,000 depending on the model, held on a credit card in the driver’s name. The exact figure is given before booking, never at handover.
What is the minimum age?
25 as a rule, 30 for the most powerful models, with a licence held for at least two years.
Is mileage capped?
A daily allowance is included, with a charge beyond it, stated before you sign. On a Cannes stay it is rarely reached: Antibes is eleven kilometres away, Mougins eight. It is the run up into the back country, or the round trip to Saint-Tropez, that uses it up. Tell us the plan and we set the allowance at booking.
Can you drive to Monaco or Italy?
Monaco and the coast, without difficulty. For Italy, tell us in advance: some vehicles require written authorisation to leave the country.
